Interview with Author Anirban Das
Hello friends humor and laugh is an important part of our life and there are many authors who write humorous fiction. So, we have done an interview with Anirban Das author of “Just Kidding Yours Destiny” and “Are You Kiddin’ Me?”. Before continuing the interview lets talk about both the books in short.
1. Just Kidding Yours Destiny:
Just Kidding… Yours, Destiny revolves around the proverbial Indian guy: educated, hard-working and minting money. The protagonist of the book, Kunal, is ambitious and in love with his job. He has been slogging in the same company for a long time and expects to reach the top rung of the ladder with his qualifications, intelligence and dedication towards his job.
However, even the best laid schemes of mice and men are bound to go awry and this situation is no different. The sudden acquisition of the company where Kunal works and the arrival of a new acerbic boss puts Kunal’s plans on hold. The topsy-turvy situation is further strengthened with the arrival of a fresher, Srishti who makes Kunal question his views and priorities in life.
But, is Srishti worth the effort? Is she who she claims to be or is she just an illusion? Moreover, who is Kunal? Does he even know himself well? Confused by the turn of events and struggling to find his feet in the changing and confusing circumstances, Kunal decides to embark on a journey of self discovery and self identity to gain control over his life.
Just Kidding… Yours, Destiny aims to draw in the readers in Kunal’s world but in a way that Kunal’s story seems like their story.
This book presents the story of Kunal and Srishti in a very comical way and the way of narration is presented in a sarcastic way.
2. Are You Kiddin’ Me?:
Are You Kiddin’ Me? is a collection of humorous stories, with a medley of emotions and anecdotes from our everyday lives. From the aspirations of a wannabe entrepreneur, to the fate of the student who thinks he knows more than his teachers; from a young management trainee in love with his boss’s daughter to the out of body experience of an urban man. Each story has been carefully crafted to brighten up your day. The stories are unique, each with a subtle underlying message for the discerning reader wanting to read between the lines and find that elusive deeper meaning. These hilarious stories will not only entertain, but also inspire and motivate you to love more, live better and laugh louder.
And yes, there is a deliciously wicked twist in each tale.
PS: Don’t miss the footnotes.
Now, let us move on to interview and the interview goes like this:
1. What do you think happened to the characters after the book ended?
Well, this a question which quite a few readers have asked me. What happens to the characters after the end is best left to a reader’s viewpoint. Life goes on:) Having said that, I would urge my readers to await the thematic sequel to my first book, Just Kidding…Yours Destiny 2.
2. Do you find it more challenging to write the first book in a series or to write the subsequent novels?
It’s a good question; I don’t think that there is a clear answer here. In a series, many of the characters are already well established, which makes the job easier for the author. However each book has to be a coherent part of a bigger plot, so if any story goes haywire then the overall plot is at risk.
3. What, in your opinion are the most important elements of good writing?
In case of fiction: a) story line b) style of writing which I believe is distinctive for each author and c) simplicity of the language so that it can be understood by most people d) editing.
For nonfiction: What is unique about the book, how is it adding value to me in terms of learning something new, style of writing and live examples.
4. Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?
Not really. Even though I may have favorites as a reader, as an author, all the characters are equally special to me. A story is what it is because of the contribution of each character in it.
5. If your book was to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it?
My stories are about common relatable people with flaws; anyone can star as long he/she is a good actor and comes across as one of us, someone that we can relate to in our daily lives
6. Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?
Yes, as I have said, there is a sequel to my first book on the cards, Just Kidding..Yours Destiny 2, also in the humorous fiction genre, which I am very excited about about. It is a thematic sequel but the story is completely different from the first book.
I am also planning on a children’s book, which is work in progress.
7. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
New places (like Meghalaya, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Bangalore, etc.), New experiences ( Book Talks, Book signing, Book Fairs, etc.) and meeting so many new people.
My books also reconnected me with many long lost friends 🙂
8. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Yes, that is the biggest highlight, the love that I have been getting from my readers. I got a very emotional email from a reader in Islampur, Maharashtra after reading Just Kidding…Yours Destiny. And then there were at least two readers who got so inspired after Are You Kiddin’ Me? that one of them drew some illustrations based on the characters of my book, the second reader designed a hand made cover page.
You can check out most of the reader’s feedback on my instagram handle.
9. What do you think makes a good story?
This will again differ from author to author. For me, a good story is one which will bring a smile to my reader’s face.
10. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Is there a story or topic that you have been dying to share with the world? If so, start writing it.
Write regularly, make it a habit.
11. What was your hardest scene to write?
I don’t have a problem with writing a scene, but I have faced difficult moments with my stories. Two of my trickiest stories to write were ‘The Venture Capitalist’ and ‘Face off’ from my book Are You Kiddin’ Me?’
12. Do you have any writing buddies?
Writing is a very lonely profession; I write alone.
