Meet Keithra Deveaux, Author of Island Drama: The Life of Three Women – a Bachelorette, a Wife, and a Divorcee, Living in the Bahamas by Anne the new exciting Women’s Fiction Novel Released on the 26th of January 2020.

-Now, Keithra, I understand your novel is both a printed book and an ebook. Tell us more about yourself and your book

Island Drama is set within the beautiful islands of the Bahamas, which is where I’m from. For the most part, Island Drama is based on real life events that occurred throughout my life. My life experience probed me to find a way to empower teenage and young adult women of my generation to believe in themselves and create opportunities to achieve their goals and dreams. And so, I wrote ‘Island Drama’.

-Sounds pretty interesting! What inspired you to write this book?

My inspiration came from the burning desire to inspire young women to push towards their goals and dreams despite any circumstances they may face just as the characters in my book have.

-That is admirable! What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?

The most difficult challenge for me was; wanting to give up and quit writing. There’s always that thought in the back on your mind that no one will read your book or who cares about your story so why write it?

-Yes that is a common obstacle among new writers, but you know the first advice any established author gives to an aspiring new one is to keep writing and never give up. How do you stand out from your competition?

Although my book is listed as Women’s Fiction, it is easily relatable to real life experiences especially in the Caribbean and Western world.

-Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?

I’m not particularly a huge reader but when I do read I love fantasy, anything that can put me into a different world or dimension. My all-time favorite is Harry Potter.

-Yes J.K. Rowling is very popular among authors. Tell us, what is your next step as an author?

My next step would be to start on the sequel of ‘Island Drama’ to finish telling the story. The last words of the current book says, “To Be Continued…” I want to bring awareness of the current book and the future sequel(s). By doing so, I would have touched many lives and inspired many young women.

-Very cool! Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring indie authors?

Yes, if just the thought of writing a book came across your mind at any point in your life – pursue it. It won’t be completed over night but as long as you hold yourself accountable to your desire then you will see the finish line. Start and don’t quit!

-Agreed! Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes, it has been an honor writing ‘Island Drama’ for the world to read and it will be an honor to have as many readers touch my book. I will know then that I will be one-step closer to fulfilling my purpose, which is to inform, inspire, and initiate change by empowering young women.

That’s awesome, thank you Keithra Deveaux for those great insights! We all wish you the best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your next piece of work.
