Meet Charles.G.Fournel, Author of Rise of the Maquis the new exciting Historical fiction Novel Released on the 30th of November
–Now, Charles, I understand your novel is a paper back book and an ebook. Tell us more about yourself and your book
I have always had an interest in World war two, with one of my grandparents being in British military intelligence and the other being in the Junge Wehrmacht. I have been writing since the age of 10, various different genres.
My book is set in Europe which is in turmoil due to the tyrannical reign of Germany. A small group of brave resistance soldiers fight from the inside to save France. Together this ragtag group of individuals, including an English SOE, hiding in plain sight they form a bond that no one, not even Hitler can break. They even have the support of Pablo Picasso, but the question is will it be enough to get through the war unscathed? They have their black market supplies and procured weapons at the ready, these men and women will fight for their country, for their freedom and for their lives.
-Wow! Sounds very intriguing! What inspired you to write this book?
I have always had an interest in the world war having family which had fought on both sides. Funnily enough I dreamt the prologue of this book. But I never considered writing in this era until that dream changed everything.
-Interesting! Inspiration comes in so many different forms! What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?
The real challenge I had was keeping things as factual as possible but also keeping the book entertaining.
-Agreed! How do you stand out from your competition?
I do not believe that there are enough fiction books about the French resistance and those that are published, can be outlandish and unbelievable, when I believe mine sticks to the 1940’s era and even though fiction, it can be believed.
-That’s a very good point! Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?
I do not read as much as I like, but my favorite authors consist of Mario Puzo, James Holland, Chris Ryan and Bram Stoker
-Bram Stoker is a personal favorite of mine as well. Tell us, what is your next step as an author?
Well I have already signed a contract for my second book to be published, which will be out next year and over the next few years I have more World war two fiction books to come out. I plan to publish one a year and am currently working on my sixth
-Wonderful! Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring authors?
Just to keep going, all writers or authors have ups and downs, you will get people who do not like your book, you will get rejection letters from agents and publishers, but do not let these little upsets put off. Also I advise you to join writers groups on social media, such as Facebook, where you can get any help or advice you need for your writing, from fellow authors.
-That’s great advice indeed! Is there anything else you would like to add?
Many aspiring writers ask me ‘I want to write, how do I start?’ and I always give the same answer, ‘you have to put pen to paper’.
I just hope everybody who reads my book enjoys it as much as I did writing it
That’s awesome, thank you Charles for those great insights! We all wish you the best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your next piece of work.
