Meet Debi Prasad Padhi, Author of Soul Brother, the new exciting True Story Novel Released on the 29th of July 2020.
-Now, Debi, I understand your novel is a printed book and has an ebook edition also. Tell us more about yourself and your book
The book is a true story about a common man in Odisha, India, who had a very topsy turvy uncommon life. That common man happens to be me, who was a victim of circumstances due to his own emotional reactions in life. As most of the situations and reactions have lot of similar shades to the life of an Indian actor Sanjay Dutt, the title Soul Brother came into being. Soul Brother by definition is an allegory to a person whose thoughts, feelings and attitudes closely match those of another. The book has various elements which has connected very well with readers not only in India but also overseas, and many feel that a movie can be made on this.
-What inspired you to write this book?
I would rather say Who? It was my wife Mili, who felt I should write my story which would serve as an inspiration to others as well as give them some dollops of entertainment because my story has too many sides.
-What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?
I write in a flow. My soul dictates the flow of my words. And hence, once I write I find it difficult to edit, and that was my major hurdle, because I had to change some names to protect privacy of some people, as well as cut down on the word count. The fear of being judged hovered too, so I couldn’t give it to anyone for proofreading also.
-How do you stand out from your competition?
I don’t consider that I have competition or that I am competing with anyone. This is a story which has been written from the heart and its essence is honesty, however ugly or good that honesty may sound. I feel overwhelmed by the love this book is receiving from readers not only in India but overseas also.
-Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?
In my teens and twenties, I did read lot of fiction books, of which one of my favorites was ‘If tomorrow Comes’. In recent times, I love books from Rhonda Bryne – The Secret, The Power and The Magic and Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch
-Tell us, what is your next step as an author?
I don’t belong to the fictional genre and can write only on true stories. Currently I am working on the biography of the Entertainment Baron of Odisha SItaram Agarwal, who had a meteoric rise – A rags to riches story. I intend to further write on some true life stories, which may stir up controversy like “What actually happened to Sushant Singh Rajput?”. This has been the hottest topic in India of a young budding actor, where initially it was given the form of suicide but now a murder angle has emerged. Fingers are being pointed out at many top notch in the higher echelons of society.
-Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring indie authors?
Be honest to yourselves and your readers. Write from your soul and don’t be bothered about reviews and critics much. If you have written something from your heart, it will find its way to its audience. Try and keep the language simple so that the masses connect to it.
-Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes. My love and gratitude to all the readers who have read my book till now, and have given so much love to it with their heart touching reviews at Amazon, Goodreads and also in personal messages of my social media handles. Sometimes it made me cry seeing lines like ‘The very existence of this book is the triumph of human spirit over challenging circumstances’, and sometimes it made me feel humbled reading comments like ‘Page turner’, ‘captivating’ and ‘Biographical Masterpiece’.
