Meet Barakah Smith, Author of Stranger in a Familiar Place the new exciting fantasy fiction Novel Released on the March 3rd 2020
-Now, Barakah, I understand your novel is available in paperback and ebook. Tell us more about yourself and your book
The book is about a boy who wakes up in an unfamiliar world missing parts of his humanity. He has lost his sense of touch, his emotions, and the things that make him human. Elias is helped by a massive talking polar bear named Malakh. Malakh must help Elias restore his humanity and bring him home before the darkness consumes him.
-What inspired you to write this book?
An answer to the question: “what happens when we have an out of body experience?”
-What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?
Writing the story without giving too much away. I wanted enough information to keep you curious but also give nothing away.
-How do you stand out from your competition?
It’s a story told in a way that is unique. I have not read a story taken this approach with this subject and I think, coupled with some identifiable characters, really help it to stand out.
-Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?
I am an avid reader! I usually stick to fiction and I have two favorite series. One is the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis and the other is The Wayfarer Redemption series by Sara Douglass.
-Tell us, what is your next step as an author?
My next step is to write an indirect sequel to Stranger in a Familiar Place. I have already started writing it and I just started on my third chapter.
-Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring indie authors?
Be unique. Its very easy to follow or mimic what’s popular because it does help sell books. Being able to create something new and exciting is what fantasy and fiction are all about.
-Is there anything else you would like to add?
There’s no right or wrong way to publish your book. Make sure that whatever path you choose it works and makes sense for you. Do your research, ask around, and then make an informed decision.
That’s awesome, thank you Barakah Smith for those great insights! We all wish you the best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your next piece of work.
