Meet Amanda Aggie, Author of The Hollow 47 the new exciting Psychological Thriller Novel Released on the 1st of October 2020
-Now, Amanda, I understand your novel is available for pre-order in an e-book format, but it will also be available in paperback, audio, and hardcover at the time of release. Tell us more about yourself and your book
My book ‘The Hollow 47’ was unexpected. When the inspiration hit me, I instantly put everything else aside and the words poured out of me and into the keyboard. I am so proud of what I became and I’m very excited to share it with the world. I’m just your average person. A few years ago, if you would have told me I would be an author, I likely would have laughed and said “Me? No way, that’s a one-in-a-million chance.” Now, it still surprises me that I did it! Becoming an author is one of my greatest accomplishments and I absolutely love my job.
-That sounds amazing! Very similar to my own story, a few months ago if someone told me I would be a published novelist I would’ve laughed! Even as I was writing the novel itself, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to complete and/or publish it right until the end! What inspired you to write this book?
It was inspired by a dream that I had a few months ago. I had a nightmare about being stuck in the woods that were haunted by ghosts and in my dream, I discovered that the ghosts were spirits from a settler’s group that had died. That became the backbone of my book. The book revolves around the ghost story of ‘The Hollow 47’.
-Wow! Very inspiring! What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?
The main challenge I faced was writing it. Honestly, I had intended just to get a summary down on paper to come back to once I finished my other project. Instead, I finished the first draft of ‘The Hollow 47’ in about a week. It sucked me in to writing it just as advanced readers have said that it sucked them into reading it.
-That is awesome! Again very similar to my story! I wrote down my first draft in 9 days, I literally turned into a human typewriting machine that eats occasionally to sustain lol! How do you stand out from your competition?
As someone who enjoys a good story, my brand is to provide one. One that gives you an escape from the world that we live in. I want to provide a story that my readers can sink their teeth in to and that they don’t want to put down. I want to provide a story that gets their heart racing and that isn’t based on an overused idea or storyline because ‘it has proven to get sales’. My goal is to provide my readers with a story that puts them psychologically right there with my characters, living in their world, and experiencing the events with them.
-Now I’m excited to read your novel! That is so admirable! I respect that very much! Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?
I am a complete book nerd. I have shelves upon shelves of books that I have read. My loved ones are constantly wondering why I would even want to pick up a book after writing for hours a day. To me, books have always been my escape and reading has always been my favorite thing to do in my free time. Writing hasn’t changed that for me. I read thrillers of all kinds, fantasy, sci-fi, and dystopian novels. I’m not sure I could pick a single favorite book of all time. However, if I had to choose based on this particular moment it would be ‘Year One’ by Nora Roberts.
-We have the same taste! This is very strange in a wonderful way! Tell us, what is your next step as an author?
Well, in the last two months I have accomplished a couple goals of mine. The first, was the become a ‘Bestselling Author’ and the second, was to become an ‘International Bestselling Author’. Both, I accomplished on Amazon within two months of my first thriller novel releasing in April of 2020. The goals that I am shooting for now, are to repeat that process with ‘The Hollow 47’ and to release six books in the next year.
-Let’s all bow down to the queen of the north! Wow, congratulations, that sounds awesome! Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring indie authors?
Things that you should know:
- Marketing is a must! – Learn how to advertise, be willing to invest in yourself.
- Editing is necessary! – You don’t have to fork over thousands of dollars, but you need more eyes than your own on your work. Whether that is a family member or friend who is proficient in writing or paying someone through fiverr.com to do it.
- Get a good cover! – It is the first thing people are drawn to and what drives your sales/ downloads.
- Do your research! – Look up keywords for ads, read about creative writing and how to create the perfect product. Learn how to launch a book effectively. The information is out there!
- Don’t measure your success off others in the field. – There are plenty of author Facebook groups and thousands of cynical people that are the first to discourage people to join the craft or keep going. I can promise that if you do #1-4, don’t give up, and learn from your mistakes you can be successful. It might not work the first time around and that’s ok, KEEP TRYING!
-That’s the best advice we have received so far on the blog, right on! Is there anything else you would like to add?
For aspiring authors out there, as writers we tend to be introverted and afraid of change. From sharing your work with your loved ones, to hitting publish, to doing an interview, there will always be something that will be scary or new. I recently just overcame a hurdle myself! I just transitioned from working as a Laboratory Scientist, to a full-time author and it was terrifying! Being willing to take those risks and support your ambitions. It is the key character trait that distinguishes those who will succeed from those who will forever say that they ‘want to write a book’.
That’s awesome, thank you Amanda Aggie for those great insights! We all wish you the best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your next piece of work.
