Meet Nicole Mainwaring, Author of The Timekeeper’s Conspiracy the new exciting Sci-Fi Novel Released on April 16, 2020.
-Now, Nicole, I understand your novel is a printed book and an e-book. Tell us more about yourself and your book.
My debut novel focuses on Simon and his best friend Luke who try to stop a scientist, Dr. Tate Pedersen and his team from releasing a deadly virus throughout the world.
They have 8 months to prevent the virus from being unleashed. As the war rages Simon is forced to uncover ugly truths about his past, the people he loves, and the world he thought he lived in.
My book was completed over the course of 6 and a half years, and it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. That being said, finally completing my novel has given me a sense of pride and peace that I never knew existed.
-Wow that is really impressive and the story seems very interesting! What inspired you to write this book?
I was obsessed with the song “All Around Me” by Flyleaf. I spent many commutes to and from work daydreaming about my version of the music video. That daydream was the first thing I wrote down, and it became the most tragic scene in the entire book.
-That also happened to me and I believe happens to many authors, it always starts with a song with me that creates a scene that grows into a whole story! What was the main challenge you faced when creating your book?
Believing in myself. There were many nights when I would sit on my bed and cry because I was filled with self-doubt.
-It can be hard of course, keeping the pace of self-motivation is a significant challenge! How do you stand out from your competition?
I create characters and stories that are gritty and complex. There is love, loss, mystery, anger and hatred. The devil is in the details, so to speak.
-Very cool! Are you a huge reader yourself? And what do you usually read? Any favorites?
Yes I love to read! I usually read fiction and am a huge fan of V.C. Andrews (her original work, not the ghostwriters), Dean Koontz, Stephenie Meyer, and Jamie McGuire – just to name a few.
Two of my favorite books are Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews, and Providence by Jamie McGuire.
-Those are all on my list of favorites! Tell us, what is your next step as an author?
The Timekeeper’s Conspiracy is a trilogy, so I’m working on the 2nd book now. I also have an outline of book 3 as well as outlines for 13 other stories.
-Wow! Do you have any tips or advice for other aspiring indie authors?
When beginning any story, write just to write. Don’t focus on punctuation or flow.
Music is vital, for me anyway. It inspires scenes and helps create and/or enhance emotion. Invest is a good pair of headphones and a music subscription.
Writing a novel is not easy. You will put everything you have into your work, and then even more that you never knew existed.
-Very that! Is there anything else you would like to add?
I hope that one day, one person feels as strongly connected to my characters as I do. That would be the best validation in the entire world.
Thank you for featuring me, this is a very inspiring opportunity.
That’s awesome, thank you Nicole for those great insights! We all wish you the best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your next piece of work.
